iRobot Roomba Intelligent Floorvac Robotic Vacuum Review

Rating: ★★★★☆

Traditional thought tells us that vacuum cleaners are large, and require a person to operate them. However, there is a company producing vacuum cleaners that are small, lightweight, and will operate themselves. They are the iRobot Intelligent Floorvac vacuums.

Just imagine the convenience afforded by Roomba. You can cook dinner and vacuum the living room at the same time. Your children can put it to run in their bedroom while they work on their homework. There is even a scheduler option that allows the Roomba to start itself and vacuum the house while you are at work.

Update: The iRobot Roomba is currently on sale at Amazon.com through this link

Roomba are designed with their low profile and slim diameter so that they can easily go under many pieces of furniture, and between the legs of most chairs. This makes them a necessity for anyone who suffers from allergies. You can finally clean all the dust bunnies out from under the bed, without ever having to get down on your knees. The Roomba can go under any furniture with legs that are 3.5 inches tall or higher.

The first thing Roomba does is map out the room by following the walls. It then begins to systematically clean the center floor area using impressive logarithms. A single piece of lint in the middle of the floor will be caught up by Roomba and swept away.

Hallways are easily blocked off using the optional virtual wall units. The Roomba will sense the laser emitted by the virtual wall and move back into the room. Stairs are no problem for the Roomba. A cliff detector senses any drop offs, and the Roomba will simply turn and proceed in its next direction.

Homes that have multiple flooring surfaces, such as tile, wood and carpet, are well-suited to the iRobot Roomba Intelligent Floorvac. This clever vacuum is designed to transition easily from one flooring medium to another. The bristles are soft enough to be safe on hardwood floors, firm enough to remove debris from the carpet, and the suction is great enough to cleanly remove spilled flour from tile. If you have been wondering when someone will invent a machine that will vacuum for you, you can stop wondering. That machine is here, and its name is Roomba.

Features of the iRobot Roomba Intelligent Floorvac:

  • Entry-level robotic floorvac with dirt detection and infra-red cliff sensors
  • Auto adjusts to any floor surface; 2-hour continuous cleaning; easy-to-empty debris bin
  • Edge-cleaning sidebrush; stasis sensor; virtual wall for confining to designated area

Customer Reviews of the iRobot Roomba Intelligent Floorvac:

I just love my Robot. I am 76 yrs old and it hurts my back to use a regular vacuum cleaner. The robot just goes and does the business without my having to put stress on my back. It is a wonderful tool. It cleans so well that you would not believe what it picks up that the vacuum cleaner did not. My husband and I could not be more pleased. We named it “Robot lizzie”.

This model of Roomba does an excellent job of cleaning the floors. However, it is not powerful enough for my house. Although I do not have a big house (1600 sq. ft.) the roomba runs out of power before completing the cleaning of my larger rooms. I have to divide these rooms into 2 seperate areas but then it takes hours for the battery to charge. Not very practical. I will be returning this model and exchanging for a more powerful model.

The Roomba is pretty good, especially for its price! It is great for places that are hard to reach with a regular vacuum, especially under the bed. I was pleasantly surprised how much stuff it picks up. One complaint I have is that it doesn’t last long before it needs charging again. I thought it was supposed to be able to clean for about 2 hours and cover 2 rooms but mine gets tired after about 1/2 hour. I would probably think about upgrading to a newer model soon but this is a good start and it supplements a regular vacuum cleaner nicely.

iRobot Roomba 4230 Remote Scheduler Robotic Vacuum Review

iRobot Roomba 4230

Rating: ★★★★☆

Do you love how your floors look when they are freshly vacuumed? Do you wish you could come home to clean, fresh floors every day, but can’t afford to hire a maid? With the iRobot Roomba 4230 you can have that fresh, clean look without the maid service.

Update: The iRobot Roomba 4230 is currently on sale at Amazon through this link

The iRobot company has developed a series of clever little robots whose sole function is to clean your home for you. While most of their robots have to be turned on manually by you, the iRobot Roomba 4230 features an automatic scheduler. The scheduler allows you to program the robot to turn on a certain time and clean the area. This allows you to walk into a freshly vacuumed house every day.

The iRobot Roomba 4230 is also an effective cleaner. The robot is designed with a low profile of only three inches, and is only about a foot in diameter. This allows the unit to go in between the legs of most chairs, under beds and most pieces of furniture on raised legs. Dust bunnies hidden in the corner will be a thing of the past as they won’t be able to run from the Roomba’s corner brush. The two counter rotating brushes create the effect of a broom and dustpan. The filter is so effective at catching fine particles that even dust spilled on the floor can be thoroughly cleaned.

While the iRobot Roomba 4230 can be set to run when you are not home, it can be run manually anytime you would like. Consider the possibilities of having a robot to do your vacuuming. It effectively cleans carpet, hardwood, laminate, or tile. It transitions seamlessly from one flooring surface to another. A quick sweep of the floor to get larger items is all you need to do before putting the Roomba to run. And while its vacuums entire rooms, you are free to cook dinner, do laundry, or kick up your feet and read a book!

Features of the iRobot Roomba 4230:

  • Robotic, battery-powered floor vacuum and remote scheduling device
  • Remote scheduler sets and changes vacuuming times and zones
  • Artificial intelligence and sensors navigate between walls and furniture legs and adjust for carpet, tile, and wood floors
  • Virtual wall mechanism establishes two invisible perimeters for vacuuming specific zones
  • Low-profile design fits under beds, sofas, and other tight spots where conventional vacuums can’t reach

Customer Reviews of the iRobot Roomba 4230:

I was very reluctant to buy this Roomba Scheduler because I already have an Oreck for my main vacuum. The reason why I bought this was for my dogs. I have a German Shepard mix and a Lab mix and they leave piles of hair everywhere! Everyday I would have to sweep with a swiffer once in the morning and once before I go to sleep. With the Roomba, I just schedule it to sweep in the morning when I wake up and IT IS GREAT! I don’t have to sweep anymore, and I just love watching it go. The most work I have to do is empty the bin out every night because there’s so much dog hair.

This is far,far better than I thought it could be. We have 3 cats and a husband who tracks crumbs everywhere. This thing is worth it just for picking up the cat hair under the beds and under the futon. We live in a small house and it is very difficult to get under the beds with a regular vacuum.
I am a vacuum freak and have about 5 different vacuums. I used to have to use a different one for the hard wood floors and the area rugs. Now , I just let the roomba take care of it all. You are still going to have to vacuum in the corners and the very small areas. (These to be done much less often.) The good thing is also , it forces me to pick up ALL things off of the floor. I only wish I could use it on the furniture and on the walls!!
